Compliance Dental US CERT Vulnerabilities
CISA has issued Emergency Directive (ED) 21-04: Mitigate Windows Print Spooler Service Vulnerability addressing CVE-2021-34527. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability to remotely execute code with system level privileges enabling a threat actor to quickly compromise the entire identity infrastructure of a targeted organization. This directive requires Federal Agencies to comply but HIPAA covered entities like dental offices, should update their server's Group Policy to disable the Print Spooler on all domain controllers for security. So it looks like a Microsoft Update that occurred this past March 9 has caused many Win 10 users to see blacked out images when printing. This even affected PDF printers like adobe acrobat and Microsoft Print to PDF. For the most recent version of Win 10 the culprit is KB5000802 with is the Security Update issued March 9, 2021. Luckily the only thing the update seemed to be securing is the people that still use Internett 11 or Edge for browsing. If you are not using the outdated and poorly performing browser than you should feel confident in not installing or uninstalling this update. Read more

On December 15th, 2020 Eaglesoft issued a security update to Eaglesoft 21.0017. According to Eaglesoft's blog, you should update your installations. Current Version is 21.00.18. The bulletin/blog states there is a spring update coming soon also. Read more

In 2019, the SOC code for employees may be required by your taxing authority. The 2018 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system is a federal statistical standard used by federal agencies to classify workers into occupational categories for the purpose of collecting, calculating, or disseminating data. All workers are classified into one of 867 detailed occupations according to their occupational definition. To facilitate classification, detailed occupations are combined to form 459 broad occupations, 98 minor groups, and 23 major groups. Detailed occupations in the SOC with similar job duties, and in some cases skills, education, and/or training, are grouped together. Read more
